Top 8 Men - Lee Dewyze performs Fireflies by Owl City

Lee's performance was not the best and a couple of other contestants trumps him by far voice-wise, but still he is a great performer. He definitely has a lot to work on if he aims at winning this season.

Andrew Garcia, Lee Dewyze and Alex Lambert thanks the fans

These three AI finalists took the time to thank their fans through a video uploaded in Youtube via Andrew's channel. But apparently, the AI production didn't like it and asked Andrew to remove the video from his channel. Luckily, a fan downloaded the video and uploaded it to her channel.

There are a number of objections too from the fans as they see this video upload as "cheating". Google news has already featured the video and is giving these three guys extra publicity with which some fans thought as an unfair advantage over the other contestants.

Fans are also asking the uploader, hpman247 to take the video down so as not to have Andrew, Lee and Alex into any trouble.

So, do you think this video is a form of cheating?

Lee Dewyze talks about his highschool days

DeWyze said as time went on he met a couple teachers, one teacher specifically---Amy Silverman---who helped him realize until he is on his own, "you don't know how to get to a place in your life where you want to be."

Silverman, who now teaches special education at Buffalo Grove High School, said she first met DeWyze when he signed up for Upward Bound, a Dist. 214 Adventure Education Program during the 2002 summer. She was one of two teachers who led the 11-day trip where everyone went camping, backpacking, hiking, rock climbing, and more.

"The next school year he became a student of mine at Forest View, where I had him in class all day for two years," said Silverman. "Since then, I have become very close with the entire family, I went to see Lee's first performance while he was still in high school and have seen almost every show since then."

According to Silverman, DeWyze self-taught himself to play all kinds of instruments and sing beginning at age 15. She said he never had any formal training or lessons.

"I am a nice guy, I was always a nice guy that just made bad decisions," said DeWyze on the show. "It's always good when you're in a situation when you can make a change because you never know how it's going to affect you later on in life."

Lee is safe!

Lee Dewyze lives another day to perform next week. Well, he was probably one of the best, no wonder.

So long to Jermaine Sellers, John Park, Haeley Vaughn and Michelle Delamor who got booted out this week.

Lee, dude, I hope you win, man.

Lee Dewyze sings Lips of an Angel by Hinder

On the second performance night, Lee Dewyze sings the hit song "Lips of an Angel" by Hinder. It is obvious he is a bit awkward singing without his guitar, which he claims it is a comfort for him. He said he wanted to stray a little bit away from his comfort zone and take the risk. And with guitar or none, this dude surely rocks! (I wish he doesn't keep pulling up his pants, though, lol). And the judges also pointed out some pitch problems going on but he claims he's nervous, so perhaps that's the culprit.

Despite the pitch problems, Kara told Lee that his voice was a good fit for "radio right now", Ellen and Randy called his performance "great" and Simon declared that Lee was "head and shoulders above everyone else" and "may be the one to beat."

Hinder frontman Austin Winkler even approves of Lee Dewyze's interpretation of the song. Quoted from LA Times Blog:

But what did the guy who originally sang the 2006 hit think of Lee's take? We reached out to Hinder frontman Austin Winkler and asked if he happened to catch the performance. "Yes, I did see it and was happy to see somebody sing ['Lips of an Angel'], especially Lee!" he tells Idol Tracker. "I think he is a front-runner and has a great voice! But hey, Lee, where is that falsetto at, buddy? Just kidding."
